Capt Peter Wilcox

Inside Passage Decarbonization Project
Portland, Oregon
Captain Peter Wilcox is a licensed Master Mariner (100 ton), wooden boatbuilder and retired NW solar and affordable housing architect, developer and professor. He has been voyaging the NW’s Inside Passage by kayak and sailboat off and on since 1960, on over 18 summer voyages.
Peter’s 36’ high-efficiency motorsailer, Ama Natura, is based on the design of a sailing salmon troller he briefly crewed in Alaska, and was built for him and his wife by the NW School of Wooden Boatbuilding. When not giving marine decarbonizing talks to sailing clubs, boat festivals, and governments, he is designing his new boat, Ama Futura.

From its launch in 2008, Ama Natura has been powered and heated with 100% waste-sourced biobased fuels, specifically Renewable diesel for the last five years, and uses only bio-based lubricants, copper-free bottom paints, and H2Out dessicant fuel vent filters instead of toxic biocides.
